Penetration Testing

There are many different types of penetration tests available.  From physical access to automated firewall testing.  Each have their own purpose and it is important to understand what each is trying to do and to have the right skill sets for the task.  For instance a physical access test requires a confident, extrovert character able to take on many roles and think quickly on their feet, whilst someone using advanced persistent threat (APT) techniques, needs to be determined, patient and with an original mind.

These are usually two very different characters.  We look to use the right person for each particular exercise where a person is appropriate to that task.

Frequently automated tests are shunned as they are seen as not very sophisticated but they do have their role in crunching through the standard and simpler approaches to launching an attack.  They can provide useful information on which servers are out of date, or which ports are incorrectly openned or a number of other simple but crucial bits of information about an organisation's security.  So they have their place but for the more sophisticated and probably less frequent penetration tests, there is nothing to beat the individual attention of our team of penetration testers.

Redscan provides the right service for our customer's requirements.  We use the best from a variety of different testing procedures to ensure that our coverage is second to none.  Our engineers are able to explain how a vulnerability might be exploited and will work with our customers to suggest defences that can be deployed.
