After considering solutions from several vendors, Cory opted for a unified threat management (UTM) service from Redscan. This comprehensive solution delivers web filtering, email scanning, virus scanning, malware protection and secure connections for virtual private networks (VPNs) from a single device, called the Redscan Service Delivery Platform (SDP). Scorey sums this up as “multiple solutions all in one.”
All Redscan solutions are proactively managed and maintained by Redscan’s security professionals and this was a very attractive option for Cory. It meant that the IT department would no longer have to find time to manually update and reconfigure solutions.
Cory Environmental currently has three Redscan SDP devices. The two larger products are installed at the company’s two datacentres in London and Kent, and all of the Internet and email traffic to and from 450 office-based PCs and 250 mobile devices is balanced across these devices. In the unlikely event of a disaster at one data centre, such as a fire, the Redscan SDP device at the second site can effortlessly step up to handle all traffic and provide continuous protection for the business.
The third, smaller Redscan SDP product is installed at a factory in Somerset, where the organisation generates electricity from a by-product of waste processing. The device is attached to a specific piece of plant machinery and provides a secure VPN connection, allowing authorised site supervisors and a third party contractor to remotely manage and maintain this important component in the electricity production process.
