In November 2020 we hosted our first ever Capture The Flag (CTF) event, run in partnership with Immersive Labs.

By solving puzzles to find “flags,” participants accumulated points and rose up the leader board, with great prizes on offer for those achieving first, second or third place.

Over the five days the challenge was open we had a number of people who successfully completed the objective and “captured the flag”. Congratulations to the following participants who were randomly drawn out from the finishers:

  • 1st place – Hugo Vazquez, Graphcore
  • 2nd place – Adam Orton, Pearson
  • 3rd place – InfosecSapper

CTF events consist of a series of cyber security skills challenges that vary in their degree of difficulty and require participants to exercise different skillsets to solve them.

Participants faced a series of labs covering the Initial Access stage of the MITRE ATT&CK framework, a matrix used to classify adversarial tactics, techniques and procedures.

Samy Denno, Head of Security Operations Centre (SOC) at Redscan, said:

“With threats constantly evolving, keeping your cyber security skills up to date is vital. We are proud to have worked in partnership with Immersive Labs to host this CTF event. It was a great opportunity for those new to cyber security and also for experienced professionals to practice and fine-tune their security skills.”

Although sadly this event has now finished, we look forward to seeing you at a future Redscan CTF event.
